| 内容記述 | This paper describes efforts by the author and his students to preserve the landscape of the Motofumoto (旧麓) district of the Kiire Township in Kagoshima City. The Motofumoto district, or Tojyo (外城), is where samurai of the Satsuma clan (薩摩藩) settled. This district abounds with remnants of the Edo period such as a gate to a samurai residence. Through fieldwork by the author and his students, the local residents’ interest in the area increased, and this also led to greater communication within the community. The students also acquired many skills in the course of their fieldwork. |
