| 内容記述 | Germany has seen the introduction of a range of activities designed to improve the quality of life (QOL) ("Lebensqualität" in German) for elderly people with dementia. The difficulty of perceiving the subjectivity of the elderly with dementia has led to several qualitative studies on QOL in countries other than Japan, where such studies have tended to be quantitative. This study draws on reports of the "Heidelberg method for QOL in patients with dementia" to examine some activities in this field that have been led by the University of Heidelberg. The Heidelberg method emphasizes a "feeling of joy" as the basis for QOL and promotes music and a variety of activities as important to increase feelings of joy. Lessons drawn from the Heidelberg method suggest that Japan needs to rapidly expand both qualitative and quantitative research to improve QOL for elderly people with dementia. | |||||
