One of them is to enhance the social identification with the group which one belongs to. According to the social identity approach, if the individual categorizes himself or herself as a member of a group and realizes that the group membership is incorporated into his or her self-identity, he or she will enhance his or her identification with the group and then he or she will be motivated to work harder for it. Haslam (2004) called the motivation gains with which people increase their efforts when they work in groups as compared to when they work alone, \"social laboring\".\nIn this paper I reviewed three experimental studies (6 experiments) which discovered the social laboring effects in group settings (Worchel, Rothgerber, Day, Hart, & Butemeyer, 1998; van Dick, Stellmacher, Wagner, Lemmer, & Tissington, 2009; Hoigaard, Boen, Cuyper, & Peters, 2013). Although most experiments confirmed the social laboring effect, a few studies failed to find the effect.
