At the core of this model is an image of students as internally motivated to grow and learn. In other words, it might be said that each student has his or her own personal learning goals. In this study, we examine how practica helps graduate students learning social work to attain their personal goals. Furthermore, we examine the factors contributing to a successful practica experience. For analysis, we use descriptive data from a questionnaire completed by 31 students of a master of social work program in the US. From this analysis, practica experience that helps students achieve their personal goals was classified to 8 categories, including learning direct practice skills, learning indirect practice skills, applying skills learned at classes, and learning diversity of reality. Additionally, factors for effective practica were classified into 9 categories, including supervisors, students' attitude, previous experience, and preparation before the practicum.
