The research participants were required to partake in three face-threatening scenarios with varying degrees of difficulty. The results reveal that in terms of basic state, as the difficulty of requests increases, the linguistic behaviors of both the third-year and fourth-year undergraduate students tend to be identical. In contrast, the graduate students demonstrated linguistic diversity, indicating a relatively higher level of Japanese proficiency compared to the undergraduate students. In terms of behavioral differences, there were significant differences among the third-year and fourth-year participants as well as the graduate students. More specifically, the third-year students showed no differences in high-level face-threatening scenarios, whereas fourth-year students displayed significant variation in this regard.
